Scholarships in United Kingdom

Scottish International Scholarship Programme

Permanent residents of China, India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore wishing to study for a Masters in Scotland can apply for the Scottish Executive scholarships. The scholarships in UK are available for courses at any Scottish higher education institution, with priority for science and technology and creative industries courses. They cover tuition fees, return economy airfare and living allowance.

Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORSAS)

The ORSAS is available to students of exceptional academic excellence to undertake postgraduate research in British universities. The award provides funding only to pay the difference between the international student tuition fee and the home/EU fee. They do not cover the basic fee or maintenance; however, some universities provide additional awards to cover these extra costs. Students have to apply through the academic institution where they have been offered a place to study.

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plans (CSFP)

General Scholarships through the CSFP are normally available for postgraduate studies, and cover the cost of the university fees, return travel and personal maintenance. Applications should normally be filed in the first instance to the Commonwealth Scholarship agency in the country where the applicant is a permanent resident. Split-Site Doctoral Scholarships from the CSFP support students who are already undertaking a PhD programme in their home university. The scholarship enables the students to spend 1 year in a UK university as part of their work. The award covers one year's tuition fees, travel and maintenance allowance. Applications are normally sent through the universities. The Shared Scholarship Scheme provide support for taught postgraduate students who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK. The scheme provides funding for tuition fees, return airlines and a maintenance stipend. Applications should be filed through participating universities.

British Chevening Scholarships

These scholarships are available to talented graduates and young professionals for studying in the UK. Three types of scholarships are available: Type A (tuition fees only), Type B (full scholarships, covering fees and stipends), and Type C (covering part or full stipends and allowances). Applications should be made through the British Embassy, High Commission or British Council of the country where the student is a citizen.
